Laboratory of Materials Chemistry

Our research is focused on the development of advanced (nano)materials for a variety of applications including thermal barrier coatings, insulating materials, high-performance materials, etc. Also, our research is oriented at obtaining a fundamental understanding of chemical and physicochemical principles following conventional and non-conventional synthetic techniques such as hydrothermal/solvothermal assisted synthesis, synthesis by supercritical drying method and solid-state synthesis.

Under this regard, our equipment allows us to synthesize a variety of (nano)materials with different properties that satisfy the demands of the modern engineering as well as adding novel knowledge throughout the scientific community. Our members are experts in understanding the fundamental principles of chemistry, physics and engineering and are ready to provide ideas in importing the performance of known materials and/or satisfying the demands of the market and of our industrial collaborators.

Of particular interest are the following areas:

  • Rare-earth zirconates (Ln2Zr2O7)
  • Composite materials for high temperature applications
  • Inorganic and hybrid nanoparticles with specific characteristics (particle size and shape, etc)
  • Inorganic aerogels and xerogels with specific characteristics (porous size, and shape, etc)
